Biography Monica Claire Antonie
Monica Claire (Weigel) Antonie is Editor of Accent Editions and has published works by poets Tom Weigel; Harris Schiff; Annabel Lee; Joel Lewis and Pete Spence.
Monica began taking photographs of poets, painters and performers during the mid-1970’s. She documented NYC East Village poetry readings, new wave performances and works by artists in Andy Warhol’s sphere of influence. She worked at The Museum of Modern Art in New York for over 38 years. During that time she photographed several of the MoMA poetry readings for Lita Hornick. Monica’s photographs have appeared in The Full Deck Anthology (Tom Weigel, 1982, Andrea Doria Books); Dabble: Poems 1966-1980 by John Godfrey (Full Court Press, 1982); The Green Fuse, (A Memoir by Lita Hornick, 1989); Nice to See You – Homage to Ted Berrigan (Coffee House Press, 1991); Superstar in a Housedress – The Jackie Curtis Movie (Craig Highberger, 2004), The Invisible Father movie (Piero Heliczer); Not Enough Night (Fall 2011, Naropa Institute); One More Beat (Harris Schiff, Accent Editions 2011); Collaborations (Greg Masters, Crony Books 2020) and many other small press publications.
Monica designed covers for several small press poetry books and magazines including: Mag City 8, Cars (Poems by Elinor Nauen, Misty Terrace Press); Both Sides of the Goat (Poems by Lenny Goldstein, Andrea Doria Books); Little Heart (Poems by Tom Weigel); Audrey Hepburn's Symphonic Salad and the Coming of Autumn (Poems by Tom Weigel, Telephone Books); Cauliflower or Bust (Fell Swoop 75), North River Rundown (in collaboration with Joel Lewis) and Red Duck (Pete Spence).
